ORLANDO, Fla. (March 16, 2023) – The No. 29 Denison University women's tennis team concluded its Spring Break trip to Florida with a tough matchup against the fourth-ranked team in NCAA Division III, Wesleyan University, and in the end, the Big Red were defeated by a final score of 9-0 at the Lake Cane Tennis Center.
It was the first matchup between Denison (8-3 overall) and Wesleyan (8-0) since they first meet in 2017.
The closest doubles match for Denison was an 8-3 defeat for
Peyton Oda and
Kendall Schrader in the No. 3 spot against Renna Mohsen-Breen and Sarah Youngberg.
Then in singles,
Caroline Lopez played to a 6-4, 6-0 defeat against Youngberg at No. 5 singles while
Sydney Cianciola fell 6-1, 6-3 against Nika Vesely in the top spot.
Denison lost 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2, No. 3, No. 4, and No. 6 singles.
Up next for Denison will be a neutral-site contest against Sweet Briar College at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, at the Mayfield Village Racquet Club in Mayfield, Ohio. The next day on Sunday, March 26, the Big Red will battle against No. 12 nationally-ranked Case Western Reserve University at 12:45 p.m. at the LaTuchie Tennis Center in Stow, Ohio.
