No. 4 Denison women close out regular season at Kenyon

GAMBIER, Ohio (February 18, 2023) – After winning the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship last week, the No. 4 Denison University women' swimming team took on the Kenyon Fast Chance Invitational in an effort to improve its qualifying marks.

Leading the way for the Big Red was Emma Berdelman, Maja Palmroos and Kayla Tehrani. Berdelman swam a "B" cut time of 2:04.26 in the 200 IM time trial while Palmroos swam a "B" cut of 54.99 seconds in the 100 butterfly time trial. Tehrani, meanwhile, won the 200 butterfly with a "B" cut time of 2:04.10 while also swimming another "B" cut of 2:05.15 in the time trial.

Tara Culibrk won the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.67 seconds while Palmroos was third at 23.87 seconds. In the 50 freestyle time trial, however, Culibrk swam a "B" cut time of 23.57 seconds.

Rebecca Martin was third in the 400 IM with a "B" cut time of 4:29.34 while also swimming a "B" cut time of 4:27.57 in the time trial.

Tara Witkowski finished second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:53.38.

In addition to Tehrani's win in the 200 butterfly, Denison swept the top-four spots as Berdelman (2:04.89) was second, Emma Pritchett (2:04.95) was third and Nikki Barnas (2:06.02) was fourth. The times for Berdelman and Pritchett were each good for "B" cuts as well.

Sophie Kannee (57.75) and Emily Harris (58.17) finished back-to-back in third and fourth place in the 100 backstroke.

Esme Wright was sixth with a time of 1:06.35 in the 100 breaststroke.

Amber Croonquist was first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.12 seconds while Annie Pfeufer was fifth at 52.75 seconds and Avery Vogen was sixth at 52.94 seconds.

Vogen was second in the 100 butterfly at 57.00 seconds while Caroline Cavalier was fifth at 59.53 seconds.

Claire Moody was second with a time of 2:03.93 in the 200 backstroke while in the time trial, Taryn Wisner swam a "B" cut time of 2:02.94.

Lastly, in the 200 breaststroke time trial, Christina Crane swam a "B" cut time of 2:18.56.

Denison returns to action on March 15-18 at the NCAA Division III Championship. The Denison divers will be in action on February 24-25 at the NCAA Diving Regional that will be hosted by the University of Chicago.
