GRANVILLE, Ohio (November 29, 2023) – The Denison University men's and women's swimming teams kicked off the 2023 Denison Invitational with the Long Course Meters Time Trials for Olympic Qualifying on Wednesday evening inside the Trumbull Aquatics Center.
Indianapolis, Indiana, will host the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials (June 15-23). For the first time ever, the event will be staged on a football field as Lucas Oil Stadium is tapped to host the Olympic-qualifying meet in front of hundreds of thousands of families, friends and fans over nine days.
Grace Kadlecik won the women's 50 LC Meter Freestyle Time Trial with a time of 27.03 seconds while
Maja Palmroos was third at 27.20 seconds. In addition,
Amber Croonquist set a new lifetime-best with a time of 27.42 seconds to finish in fifth place.
In the men's 100 LC Meter Backstroke Time Trial,
Nicholas Settembrine finished in second place and set a lifetime-best with a time of 58.45 seconds while
Shea Card was fourth at 59.23 seconds.
Riley Tofflemire won the women's 100 LC Meter Breaststroke Time Trial with a time of 1:12.01. Tofflemire, who already has her Canadian Olympic Trial cut, was looking to improve her standing in Canadian Trials.
In the men's 100 LC Meter Breaststroke Time Trial,
Elijah Venos swam a time of 1:03.68 to finish fifth while
Liam Nelson, who was going for an US Olympic Trial Cut instead of his home country of Thailand, was sixth at 1:04.76. In addition,
Josh Thomas was seventh at 1:06.58. All three times were a new lifetime-best for each swimmer.
Lucas Conrads finished third in the men's 400 LC Meter IM Time Trial with a time of 4:38.98 while
Annie Pfeufer won the women's 100 LC Meter Freestyle Time Trial with a lifetime-best of 59.45 seconds.
In the men's 100 LC Meter Freestyle Time Trial,
Christian McIntire finished fifth with a new lifetime-best of 53.58 seconds while
Dhinal Weerasinghe was seventh at 55.42 seconds. Weerasinghe is looking to post times at the LCM and mid-season meet to submit for potential national team selection being held in mid-December for Sri Lanka.
Drue Thielking was second in the women's 200 LC Meter Breaststroke Time Trial with a time of 2:37.98.
Gavin Jones won the men's 200 LC Meter Breaststroke Time Trial with a lifetime-best time of 2:17.96. In addition,
Teak Rommaneekochchakorn, who came up short in improving his placement for Thailand, swam a time of 2:23.37.
Devin Testin was fifth in the men's 200 LC Meter Backstroke Time Trial with a time of 2:10.22, and then
Patrick Daly won the 200 LC Meter IM Time Trial with a time of 2:06.45.
Emily Harris was second in the women's 100 LC Meter Butterfly Time Trial, swimming a lifetime-best of 1:03.12.
Lastly, in the men's 100 LC Butterfly Time Trial,
Jack Johnson was sixth at 1:00.44.
