COLUMBUS, Ohio (November 11, 2023) – The No. 7 nationally-ranked Denison University men's swimming & diving team fell 186-103 in a dual meet to the No. 14-ranked team in NCAA Division I, The Ohio State University, on Friday night at the McCorckle Aquatic Pavilion. This was the 14th straight season that Ohio State has hosted the Denison men's team in a dual meet on the OSU campus.
In the first event, Denison's group of
Nicholas Settembrine,
Elijah Venos,
Christian Narcelles and
Richie Stewart finished fourth with a time of 1:33.21 in the 200 medley relay.
In the 1000 freestyle,
Sam Myaard was fifth with a time of 9:40.38 and
Max Hutson-Comeaux was seventh at 10:10.49.
Next was the 200 freestyle in which
Tyler Distenfeld was fourth with a time of 1:42.69 while
Christian McIntire was seventh at 1:44.42.
In the 100 backstroke, Settembrine was fifth with a time of 51.97 seconds while
Devin Testin was sixth at 53.24 seconds.
Denison's best finish of the early part of the meet was a second-place finish in the 100 breaststroke by
Liam Nelson, who swam a time of 56.02 seconds and was followed by
Patrick Daly in third place at 57.19 seconds.
Max Lough followed with a fourth-place finish in the 200 butterfly, clocking in at 1:53.56 while
Max Soja was sixth at 1:56.14; and then Stewart was fourth as well with a time of 21.57 seconds in the 50 freestyle while
Gavin Jones was sixth at 22.01 seconds and Narcelles was seventh at 22.08 seconds.
Owen Dy and Venos finished back-to-back in fourth and fifth place with times of 48.36 seconds and 48.52 seconds, respectively, in the 100 freestyle.
Next up was the 200 backstroke as Testin was fourth at 1:56.32 while Settembrine was sixth at 1:56.88 and
Connor Brown was seventh at 1:59.55.
Nelson added a third-place finish with a time of 2:03.84 in the 200 breaststroke while
Teak Rommaneekochchakorn was fifth at 2:06.28 and Jones was sixth at 2:08.13.
In the 500 freestyle,
Lucas Conrads (4:40.03) finished first, Distenfeld (4:44.08) was second and
Luke Landis (4:48.79) was third.
Stewart (51.88), Narcelles (52.23) and
Dylan Escano (52.64) took the top three spots in the 100 butterfly; and then Daly (1:54.36), Nelson (1:57.35) and Soja (1:59.33) did the same in the 200 IM.
In the 400 freestyle relay,
Cameron Noble, Venos, Jones and Stewart were first with a time of 3:08.77 while Narcelles,
Luke Dauer,
Ryan Foreback and Dy were second at 3:10.95.
The competition on the boards saw
Kristian Kowalski (251.00) and
Brendan Stanley (240.67) take seventh and eighth place, respectively, in the 3-meter dive while Kowalski (252.90) was also seventh on the 1-meter board.
Denison will return to the pool in three weeks when it hosts the Denison Invitational (Nov. 29-Dec. 2) at the Trumbull Aquatics Center.
