AKRON, Ohio (October 14, 2023) – Denison University men's swimming & diving opened the 2022-23 season by placing third at the Akron Zips Classic.
Session 2 - Saturday, Oct. 14 - 10 a.m.

Richie Stewart helped the Big Red to a good start in the morning session as they finished in fourth place with a time of 1:25.05 in the 200 freestyle relay. In addition, junior
Dhinal Weerasinghe, junior
Elijah Venos, sophomore
George Wang and freshman
Matt Stankivicz were eighth at 1:28.07 while junior
Christian McIntire, senior
Owen Dy, freshman
Teak Rommaneekochchakorn and senior
Ryan Foreback were right behind in ninth place with a time of 1:28.23.
In the 400 IM, juniors
Lucas Conrads (4:11.27),
Max Soja (4:12.05) and
Gavin Jones (4:12.19) finished in order between eighth and 10th place. Junior
Christian Narcelles (4:14.39), fellow-junior
Connor Brown (4:16.24), freshman
Liam Nelson (4:16.95) and fellow-freshman
Devin Testin (4:19.95) finished in order between 13th and 16th place.
Stewart led Denison with an 11th-place time of 52.27 seconds in the 100 butterfly while freshmen
Dylan Escano (52.62) and
Max Lough (53.05) were back-to-back in 13th and 14th place.
In the 200 freestyle, Noble was ninth at 1:44.94, McIntire was 12th at 1:45.31, senior
Sam Myaard was 15th at 1:46.07, Foreback was 18th at 1:46.70, Dy was 21st at 1:48.24, and Wang was 23rd at 1:49.23.
Denison's best finish in the pool during day two was a second-place finish by Nelson (56.63) in the 100 breaststroke. Nelson was followed by Venos (57.09) in fourth place, Daly (57.74) in sixth and Rommaneekochchakorn (58.26) in eighth as the Big Red had four of the top-eight finishers in the event. Escano (1:00.04) and sophomore
Josh Thomas (1:00.67) followed in 14th and 15th place, respectively, while Dauer (1:00.83) was 17th.
Lastly, in the 100 backstroke, senior
Nicholas Settembrine took eighth place with a time of 52.42 seconds while Testin came in 13th at 53.56 seconds.
Then in the 1-meter dive (six dives), fifth-year
Kristian Kowalski finished with his second win of the weekend after totaling a meet-record 263.25 points. Sophomore
Nick Fogle was right behind him in second place with 262.50 points while fellow-sophomore
Brendan Stanley was fifth at 229.00 points.
Session 3 - Saturday, Oct. 14 - 5 p.m.
Settembrine, Nelson, Narcelles and Stewart (1:33.75) started things off in the evening session with a fourth-place finish in the 200 medley relay. After that, Testin, Venos, Escano and Daly were eighth at 1:35.48 while junior
Shea Card, Jones, Soja and Noble were 10th at 1:36.49.
Conrads led the Big Red with a sixth-place time of 16:26.88 in the 1650 freestyle and was followed by sophomore
Max Hutson-Comeaux (17:10.05) in 12th and freshman
Jack Johnson (17:27.75) in 14th.
Settembrine led the Big Red with a time of 1:58.01 in the 200 backstroke, which was good for ninth place.
In the 100 freestyle, Stewart was eighth at 47.49 seconds while Noble was 10th at 47.83 seconds and Dauer and Narcelles tied for 11th at 47.95 seconds. In addition, McIntire (48.55), Foreback (48.62), Stankivicz (48.69), Wang (48.70) and Dy (48.99) finished in order between 18th and 22nd.
Rommaneekochchakorn put together a great third-place performance in the 200 yard breaststroke as he swam a time of 2:07.31. Rommaneekochchakorn was followed by Venos (2:07.86) in sixth place, Daly (2:08.20) in seventh, Nelson (2:08.30) in eighth and Jones (2:09.00) in 11th.
In the 200 butterfly, Soja (1:55.62) was sixth while Escano (1:57.03) and Lough (1:57.69) were back-to-back in eighth and ninth place.
Last but not least, in the 400 freestyle relay, Daly, Noble, Dauer and Stewart were 10th at 3:07.92.
Denison returns to action in two weeks to host its first home meet of the 2022-23 season against Xavier University. The action will start at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 28, inside the Trumbull Aquatics Center.
