AKRON, Ohio (October 13, 2023) – The Denison University women's swimming & diving team opened its 2023-24 season by competing in the first of three sessions at the Zips Classic, hosted by the University of Akron at the Oliver J. Ocasek Natatorium.
Session 1 - Friday, Oct. 13 - 5 p.m.
Denison's best finish in the 400 medley relay was an eighth-place finish (3:54.58) by freshman
Jassy Park, fellow-freshman
Riley Tofflemire, sophomore
Phoebe Ferguson and senior
Esme Wright. In a tie for 12th place at 3:54.95 was freshman
Liv Chow, sophomore
Drue Thielking, junior
Maja Palmroos and junior
Grace Kadlecik.
Sophomores
Quinn Brown (5:06.78) and
Emily Harris (5:07.13) finished back-to-back in 12th and 13th place in the 500 freestyle while senior
Tara Witkowski (5:11.11) was 19th and junior
Taryn Wisner (5:11.89) was 23rd.
Ferguson was 14th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:08.36 while Wright (2:10.36) was 18th and Chow (2:10.55) was 20th.
In the final individual swimming event of day one, the 50 free, Kadlecik led the Big Red with a 16th-place finish at 24.27 seconds.
Then in the 800 freestyle relay, Brown, Wright, Harris and Ferguson combined to finish seventh with a time of 7:45.62.
Lastly, in the 1-meter dive, junior
Kerstyn Johnson was eighth with a six-dive score of 213.55 while junior transfer
Alexis Radhakrishnan was 10th at 213.15, sophomore
Lu-Si Minnich was 16th at 177.40, and freshman
Molly McIntyre was 19th at 152.45.
The first meet of the season will be closed out on Saturday, October 14, with two sessions beginning at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
