GRANVILLE, Ohio (January 28, 2023) – The No. 12 Denison University men's tennis team kicked off its 2023 season with a pair of 9-0 sweeps over John Carroll University on Saturday, January 28, on Denison's indoor tennis courts inside the Mitchell Fieldhouse.

Doubles
Singles
- Bulger cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Markello at No. 2 singles.
- The clinching point came from freshman Ethan Green with a 6-2, 6-0 over Sarnowski at No. 3 singles.
- Andy Mackler won 6-3, 6-0 over Wacnik at No. 4 singles while freshman Kael Shah won 6-2, 6-1 win over Langovsky in the No. 1 spot.
- To finish it off, freshman Camden French earned a 6-0, 6-1 win over Gorun at No. 5 singles, and yet another freshman, Nickawn Namdar, found himself a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Palinkis in the No. 6 spot.
Match #2 – No. 12 Denison 9, John Carroll 0:
Doubles
- Tomer Ozmo and Gramley swept Alvaro Rosabal and Palinkas in the No. 3 spot (8-0).
- Jacob Patterson and Eason won 8-2 over Sarnowski and Markello in the No. 2 position.
- Mackler and Zachary Portnoy won 8-3 over Langovsky and Wacnik in the top spot.
Singles
- Andreas Chapides swept Gorun 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles, and then Patterson won 6-1, 6-3 over Sarnowski at No. 3 singles.
- Portnoy won 6-2, 6-0 over Markello at No. 2 singles and Harms won 6-2, 6-4 over Langovsky in the top spot.
- Lastly, Anthony Payiavlas was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Rosabal in the six hole while Daniel Garcia was victorious 6-2, 6-0 against Luis Wentz at No. 5 singles.

- It was the first matchup between Denison (2-0 overall) and John Carroll (0-2) since 1995, a 9-0 win for the Big Red.
Next Up: The Big Red will have three weeks to prepare for their next weekend of action, which will see Denison take on Centre College (10 a.m.) and Asbury University (4 p.m.) on Saturday, February 18, in Danville, Kentucky, followed by a highly-anticipated neutral-court matchup against the No. 1-ranked team in the country and the defending NCAA Champions, the University of Chicago, at 1 p.m. on Sunday, February 19, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
