ATHENS, Ohio (January 21, 2023) – No. 3-ranked Denison University suffered a 258-42 setback to NCAA Division I Ohio University on Saturday afternoon inside the Ohio University Aquatic Center.
Taryn Wisner earned Denison's best two finishes of the day. In the first individual event of the meet, the 1000 freestyle, Wisner (10:26.68) and
Tara Witkowski (10:28.85) finished back-to-back in second and third place, respectively, and then later on in the meet, Wisner put together another second-place finish as she ended with a time of 5:05.30 in the 500 freestyle.
Quinn Brown finished third in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:53.41 while
Claire Moody (2:07.29) and
Emma Pritchett (2:09.96) finished back-to-back in third and fourth place, respectively, in the 200 backstroke.
Amber Croonquist was fourth in the 50 freestyle at 24.61 seconds and in the 100 butterfly at 57.78 seconds.
Emma Berdelman was right behind Croonquist in the 100 butterfly with a fifth-place time of 58.39 seconds.
Tara Culibrk (53.05), Brown (53.88) and
Annie Pfeufer (54.23) finished in order between fourth and sixth place in the 100 freestyle, and Witkowski (4:36.01),
Maria Mrosko (4:39.04) and
Drue Thielking (4:39.57) did the same in the 400 IM.
Moody was fifth in the 100 backstroke at 59.76 seconds, Thielking was fifth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.64, Mrosko was fifth in the 200 butterfly at 2:10.23, and
Esme Wright was fifth in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:25.18.
The day started off with the 200 medley relay, which saw
Christina Crane, Thielking,
Phoebe Ferguson and Culibrk finish in fourth place with a time of 1:47.65.
Lastly, in the 400 freestyle relay, Culibrk, Croonquist, Ferguson and Wright took third place with a time of 3:32.98.
Denison returns to action on Saturday, January 28, when they host Senior Day against North Coast Athletic Conference foe Ohio Wesleyan University and NCAA Division I Youngstown State University in a sprint meet starting at 10 a.m.
