GRANVILLE, Ohio (January 21, 2023) – The No. 32 Denison University men's squash team played at home for the first time in its current 2022-23 season, and it was a victorious Senior Day for the Big Red, who earned a 7-2 win over Carnegie Mellon University on Saturday afternoon at the Mitchell Fieldhouse squash courts.
The Big Red swept all seven seeds that were in action on Saturday, led by wins of 11-3, 11-3, 11-4 from
Juan Felipe Hernandez at the No. 1 seed, 11-2, 11-2, 11-4 by team captain
Tarun Mammen at the No. 2 seed, and 11-5, 11-6, 11-4 by fellow captain
Huma Bekhiet at the No. 3 seed.
In addition,
Suryansh Agrawal made his Denison debut and won 11-6, 11-3, 11-5 at the No. 7 seed.
Senior Day:
- The lone Big Red senior this year is James Maher, who hails from New York, New York, was a member of the inaugural Denison varsity men's squash team in 2020-21. In addition to playing in five matches so far this year, Maher picked up his first-career win this season with a 3-0 victory at the No. 9 seed against Fordham.
Denison concludes its 2022-23 regular season with a record of 4-6, and with the postseason up next, the Big Red will prep for the start of the Liberty League Championship, scheduled for February 4-5 at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York. The Liberty League features six teams, including Denison, Bard, Hobart, Rochester, St. Lawrence and Vassar.
