MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (January 14, 2023) – Despite two more wins by freshman Juan Felipe Hernandez, the No. 30 Denison University men's squash team finished off its trip to the Wesleyan Round Robin with an 8-1 defeat to No. 31 Brown University, followed by a 7-2 loss to the hosts and No. 27-ranked Wesleyan University on Saturday at the Rosenbaum Squash Center.

For Denison (3-6 overall) against Brown (3-6), Hernandez (No. 1 seed) took a 2-1 lead with wins of 11-9 in both the first and the third set before winning 11-5 in the fourth set to get the Big Red on the scoreboard down 3-1. At the No. 3 seed, Huma Bekhiet battled hard all in all three sets and forced extra scoring in the third set before falling 3-0 (11-9, 11-8, 15-13), and at the No. 2 seed, Tarun Mammen held a 2-1 lead with wins of 11-7 in both the first and third sets before falling by a close 11-9 score in the fifth set.

Then against Wesleyan (5-5), Bekhiet earned a 3-0 sweep at the No. 3 seed while Mammen yet again battled to a fifth set before coming up short in the end. In addition, Hernandez won again at the No. 1 seed to improve to 4-0 over the weekend and 6-3 so far as a freshman.

Next up, the Big Red will host their first home match of the season and their first since an 8-1 win over Ohio State University on December 4, 2021, as Denison welcomes Carnegie Mellon University into the Mitchell Center on Saturday, January 21.
