MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (January 13, 2023) – The No. 30 Denison University men's squash team started off the Wesleyan Round Robin with a 5-4 win over No. 45 Stanford University, followed by an 8-1 defeat to No. 36 Connecticut College on Friday in Middletown, Connecticut.

Playing at a disadvantage with only six players on the day, Denison (3-4 overall) swept each of the top-four seeds against Stanford (3-4) and earned a 3-0 (14-12, 11-5, 11-5) win by Rayan Dar at the No. 6 seed to clinch the victory. Juan Felipe Hernandez won 11-3, 13-11, 11-3 in the No. 1 position, Tarun Mammen dominated in an 11-2, 11-3, 11-5 win at the No. 2 spot, Huma Bekhiet won convincingly 11-6, 11-4, 11-2 at the No. 3 seed, and Lucas Piller was victorious 11-2, 11-5, 11-6 in the No. 4 position.

Then playing against Head Coach Michael MacDonald's previous school, Connecticut College (2-6), Hernandez won again in 3-0 fashion 11-4, 11-6, 11-8 to improve to 4-3 on the year. Mammen battled to five sets at the No. 2 seed before falling 14-12 in the fifth set and Dar (No. 6 seed) won his third set 14-10 to take a 2-1 lead before falling in five sets as well.

Next up, the Big Red will wrap up the Wesleyan Round Robin against No. 31 Brown University at 11:30 a.m., followed by the hosts and No. 27-ranked Wesleyan University at 4 p.m. on Saturday, January 14.
