GRANVILLE, Ohio (June 1, 2022) – D3baseball.com announced its 2022 All-American teams and Denison University's
Kenny Lippman was named a First-Team All-American as a starting pitcher. Lippman becomes the third D3baseball.com All-American produced by the Big Red program.
In addition to being named a First-Team All-American and First-Team All-Region 7 by D3baseball.com, Lippman has also been named Second-Team All-Region 7 by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) while earning First-Team All-North Coast Athletic Conference and NCAC Tournament Most Valuable Player honors as a senior.
Lippman made 16 appearances and eight starts on the mound this year, tossing 63.1 total innings and finishing 7-1 with three saves. He finished the year with a 1.56 ERA and limited his opponents to a .187 batting average. He allowed 42 hits, 14 total runs and 11 earned runs while issuing only 16 walks and striking out a team-best 98 batters.
In all of NCAA Division III, Lippman was tied for seventh in ERA and tied for 21st in total strikeouts while also ranking 15th in strikeouts per nine innings (13.93), 16th in WHIP (.92), 27th in hits allowed per nine innings (5.97) and 34th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (6.12).
Both of Lippman's complete games on the year came during the postseason, starting with an 8-1 win over the College of Wooster in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament Championship game in which he allowed just four hits, one run and one walk while striking out 14 Wooster batters. That broke Denison's previous single-game strikeout record of 13 set by Drew Shamrock on April 9, 2004, vs. Wabash.
Then during the second round of the Granville Regional against No. 7 nationally-ranked and defending NCAA Division III National Championship Salisbury University, Lippman struck out 13 hitters and went the distance for a complete game shutout in a 2-0 victory that sent the Big Red to the regional championship for the second year in a row. Lippman finished with a three-hitter to his credit and allowed only one walk against the Sea Gulls.
Denison finished its 2022 season with the second-most wins in program history (35-11) while hosting an NCAA Regional for the first time in program history and advancing to the regional championship for the second year in a row. The Big Red also captured the North Coast Athletic Conference Regular-Season Championship for the second straight year and won the NCAC Tournament Championship for the third straight season. Lastly, this season marked Denison's fourth consecutive NCAA Regional berth.
