LAKE NONA, Fla. (May 28, 2022) – Day two of the 2022 NCAA Division III Individual Championships at the USTA National Campus in Lake Nona, Florida, saw
Tim Cianciola fight to a third set in the quarterfinals of the singles bracket before he was forced to retire.
Cianciola, the No. 4-ranked singles player in the ITA Central Region, started the day on Saturday against Tufts University's Isaac Gorelik, No. 4-ranked played in the Northeast Region, and came up just short in a first-set tiebreaker by a score of 7-6 (7-3). Then after gutting out a 6-4 win in the second set to force a third, Cianciola fell behind 2-0 and ultimately retired due to cramping in the hot Florida heat.
That put Cianciola and Bulger's future in the doubles bracket in doubt, and the duo was unable to take the court against the University of Mary Washington's Moses Hutchison and Andrew Watson in their quarterfinal matchup.
