GRANVILLE, Ohio (May 13, 2022) –
Charlie Fleming, a junior pitcher on the Denison University baseball team, was voted to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District® Team. Fleming, who is a Health, exercise, and sport studies (HESS) major with a 3.86 GPA, now advances to the Academic All-America® ballot.

Fleming earned the win in each of his first two games of the season. He earned the start and the win in Denison's season-opening 13-2 victory against Greensboro College (March 4) where he allowed seven hits and two runs while striking out four and not walking anyone in five innings. Fleming then earned a 6-3 win against Saint John's University (March 12) to improve to 2-0. He allowed six hits, three total runs and two earned runs while walking two batters and striking out four through his 7.1 innings, and pitched four 1-2-3 innings.
A season ago in 2021, Fleming was named the North Coast Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year and earned recognition on both the All-NCAC West First-Team and the All-Midwest Region Second-Team as he helped lead the Big Red to their first NCAC Championship and second NCAC Tournament Championship. Overall as a sophomore, Fleming went 7-1 with a 3.97 ERA, stuck out a team-high 65 batters over 70+ innings pitched, and had four complete games. He also threw a complete game shutout against Millikin University in the first game of the regional tournament.
Fleming is now a two-time Denison Top-50 Scholar-Athlete (2020-21 & 2021-22), and was inducted as a member of Denison's 2021-22 Chi Alpha Sigma Class. Fleming is also very involved with Denison's Mission 34 group on campus, which works to bring awareness to mental health issues.
This summer, Fleming will be playing for the Savanna Bananas (Savannah, Ga.) of the Coastal Plain League before returning to Granville for his senior year.
Within Denison's district – all Div. III institutions in Indiana, Illinois, and Ohio – just 13 baseball players (three pitchers, one catcher, four infielders, three outfielders, and two designated hitters) were part of the Academic All-District® Team. The Academic All-America® Team for baseball is slated to be announced on Wednesday, June 8.
