KALAMAZOO, Mich. (March 6, 2022) – The No. 21 Denison University men's tennis team earned its fifth win of the season and third win over a fellow nationally-ranked team as this time, the Big Red took down No. 20-ranked Kalamazoo College 7-2 during their first true road match of the season on Saturday in Michigan.
Notable Results:
Doubles
- The Big Red earned 8-1 wins at both No. 2 (Colin Gramley & Andy Mackler) and No. 3 doubles (Marc-Lennart Harms & Blake Eason).
- Tim Cianciola and Jack Bulger then finished off the sweep of the doubles action with an 8-3 in the No. 1 position.
- The duo of Cianciola and Bulger are now 5-0 at No. 1 doubles to start the season.
- Gramley and Mackler, meanwhile, are now 3-1 at No. 2 doubles while Harms and Eason are 3-1 at No. 3 doubles.
Singles
- Bulger won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 singles to improve to 6-0 on the season, and then Harms clinched the win with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles to improve to 6-0 on the season as well.
- Ryan Patrick won 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 at No. 4 singles, and Eason was victorious 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 spot.
- Both of the Big Red's losses came in third set super tie breakers as Cianciola suffered his first loss of the season, falling 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-2) at No. 1 singles while Mackler fell 6-1, 6-7 (7-9), 1-0 (10-5) at No. 5 singles.
Records:
- No. 21 Denison improved to 5-1 while No. 20 Kalamazoo fell to 3-2 after being swept 9-0 by Kenyon College last Sunday.
Next Up: The Big Red will take 10 days off before beginning their Spring Break trip to the Northeast against three nationally-ranked teams, the first of which will see Denison battle No. 36 Hobart College on Wednesday, March 16.
