MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (March 19, 2022) – The No. 16 Denison University men's tennis team wrapped up its Spring Break trip to the Northeast with a 6-3 win over No. 13 Wesleyan University during a top-20 showdown at the John Wood Memorial Tennis Courts on Saturday, improving the Big Red's record to 8-1 on the season and 4-0 on the road. The Big Red are also now 5-1 against fellow nationally-ranked teams.
Notable Results:
Doubles
- Marc-Lennart Harms and Blake Eason started the match off with an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles; and then at the final doubles match to finish, Tim Cianciola and Jack Bulger gave the Big Red a huge boost by winning the final three sets to take an 8-6 victory at No. 1 doubles and put the Big Red up 2-1.
Singles
- Ryan Patrick won the first singles match to finish to put the Big Red up 3-1. Patrick was victorious in three sets at No. 4 singles, coming back after dropping the first set to win 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.
- Then after competitive losses at both No. 1 and No. 3 singles tied the match at 3-3, Harms came back to win a three-setter as well, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2 singles, making it 4-3 Big Red.
- The clinching point came from Andy Mackler at No. 5 singles, where he was victorious 6-2, 6-3.
- Denison continued to show its depth at singles as Eason won 6-0, 6-4 in the six spot.
Next Up: Next up for Denison will be another battle against a nationally-ranked team as the Big Red welcome No. 14 Carnegie Mellon University to Granville for a 1 p.m. matchup on Saturday, March 26. Denison will also host Ohio Northern University at 5 p.m. later that day.
