PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (February 20, 2022) – The No. 33 Denison University men's squash team earned a narrow 5-4 victory over No. 37 Vassar College during day three of the College Squash Association National Collegiate Men's Team Championship on Sunday at the Specter Center. The Big Red finished 2-0 in the playoffs of the Conroy Division 7-9 bracket.
After the two teams split the first six matches to finish, Denison took the 4-3 lead as
Lucas Piller bested Henry Mitchell by an 11-8, 11-5, 11-9 score at the No. 3 spot.
Then at the No. 2 spot, Denison's
Abdallah Bekhiet made it a 5-3 margin, securing the match victory with an 11-7, 11-7, 11-5Â win against Sameer Mustafa.
Just like they did in their 6-3 win over No. 41 Fordham University on Saturday, the Big Red earned 3-0 wins at each of the top five seeds by
Tarun Mammen, Bekhiet, Piller,
Mario Reifschneider and
Joao Victor Barbosa Gomes, respectively.
During Denison's four matches throughout the weekend in the Conroy Cup division, the Big Red were led by Piller and Barbosa Gomes with three wins apiece.
The Big Red finished their 2021-22 schedule with a 5-9 record while the Brewers ended their season with a 7-12 record.
Next up, the College Squash Association Individual Championships are scheduled for March 4-6 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
