No. 6 Denison men close out regular season at Kenyon

GAMBIER, Ohio (February 19, 2022) – The No. 6 Denison University men's swimming & diving team made the short drive to Gambier, Ohio, for the Kenyon Fast Chance Invitational for one final shot at improving qualifying times for next month's NCAA Division III Championship in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Headlining the day's performances for Denison was Max Soja and Gavin Jones. Soja took on the 200 butterfly with an NCAA Division III National "B" cut time of 1:50.39 to take first place before clocking in at 1:48.97 in the time trial. Jones, meanwhile, improved upon his time in the 200 breaststroke with a National "B" cut time of 1:59.80.

Sam Myaard finished first in the 500 freestyle and earned a National "B" cut with a time of 4:32.56, and Chase Fisher did the same in the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.43 seconds.

Christian Narcelles finished first in the 400 IM at 4:02.92.

Michael Arpasi earned a National "B" cut in the 100 butterfly while taking second place with a time of 48.71 seconds. He then lowered his time to 48.61 seconds in the time trial.

Ryan Foreback (1:40.39), Patrick Daly (1:40.65) and Dhinal Weerasinghe (1:41.78) finished 1-2-3 in the 200 freestyle.

Oakley Lorson finished second behind Soja in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:51.74 before reaching a National "B" standard himself in the time trial at 1:50.02.

Shea Card was third in the 100 backstroke at 50.94 seconds, and Elijah Venos finished first in the 100 breaststroke with a National "B" cut time of 55.94 seconds.

Fisher was second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 45.87 seconds, and Jacob Edwards swam a time of 1:51.49 in the 200 backstroke.

In the time trial for the 1,650 freestyle, Tyler Distenfeld swam a National "B" cut time of 15:59.15.

Just like he did in the 100 butterfly, Arpasi reached a National "B" cut time in the time trail for the 50 freestyle, finishing in 20.50 seconds.

Denison returns to action on March 16-19 at the NCAA Division III Championship. The Denison divers will be in action on February 25-26 at the NCAA Diving Regional that will be hosted by Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
