ANNAPOLIS, Md. (November 13, 2022) – The No. 30 Denison University men's squash team finished off its opening weekend at the Navy Round Robin with an 8-1 win over Fordham University on Sunday. With the win, the Big Red are off to a 2-1 start to open their first season under new head coach
Michael MacDonald.
Juan Felipe Hernandez (No. 1 seed),
Tarun Mammen (No. 2 seed) and
Huma Bekhiet (No. 3 seed) all earned their second 3-0 sweeps of the season.
Also improving to 2-1 so far this season was
Joao Victor Barbosa Gomes (No. 6 seed), who won 3-1 with a pair of 12-10 tiebreaker wins in the final two sets, and
Rayan Dar (No. 7 seed), who won in three sets 11-6, 11-6, 11-9.
Lastly,
Ross Falcon (3-1 win at No. 5 seed),
Gus Nelson (3-0 win at No. 8 seed) and
James Maher (3-0 win at No. 9 seed) each picked up their first wins of the season.
Denison will return to action this week with its first of two trips to the state of Pennsylvania this Fall as the Big Red take on No. 13 Chatham University at 6 p.m. on Friday, November 18.
