ANNAPOLIS, Md. (November 12, 2022) – The No. 30 Denison University men's squash team opened its 2022-23 season with a 6-3 win over Georgetown University on Saturday morning during its first match of the Navy Round Robin. Then in the second match against the hosts and No. 25-ranked Navy later on in the afternoon, the Midshipmen were simply too strong and handed the Big Red a 9-0 defeat.
Denison swept each of the top four seeds (
Juan Felipe Hernandez,
Tarun Mammen,
Huma Bekhiet,
Lucas Piller) against Georgetown while
Joao Victor Barbosa Gomes and
Rayan Dar picked up important 3-2 and 3-1 wins, receptively, in the No. 6 and No. 7 spots in the lineup.
Then the lone Denison player to force a fourth set against Navy was Bekhiet in the No. 3 spot before he fell 11-6, 9-11, 11-9, 11-4. In the top spot, however, it did take a tiebreaker in the final set for Millen Randell to defeat Felipe Hernandez by a score of 11-8, 11-7, 13-11.
The Big Red will wrap up the Navy Round Robin against No. 31 Fordham University at 10 a.m. on Sunday, November 13.
