COLUMBUS, Ohio (November 11, 2022) – The second-ranked team in NCAA Division III squared off against the No. 5-ranked team in NCAA Division I on Friday night, and in the end, The Ohio State University handed the Denison University's women's swimming & diving team a 180-108 loss at the McCorckle Aquatic Pavilion.
The meet began with the 200 medley relay in which
Claire Moody,
Christina Crane,
Phoebe Ferguson and
Grace Kadlecik finished fifth with a time of 1:47.66.
Then in the first individual event of the meet, the 1000 freestyle,
Quinn Brown took fourth place with a time of 10:28.71 while
Taryn Wisner was fifth at 10:40.01.
Esme Wright finished in fourth in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:53.68 while Ferguson was sixth at 1:55.71, and then in the 100 backstroke, Moody (1:00.08) was sixth while
Ali Burns (1:01.79) was seventh.
Denison's first second-place finish of the day came from Crane, who put together a time of 1:07.00 in the 100 breaststroke. Then in the 200 butterfly,
Kelly Derasmo was fifth with a time of 2:11.84 while
Kayla Tehrani was seventh at 2:12.39.
Next was the 50 freestyle in which Kadlecik was sixth with a time of 24.87 seconds before
Amber Croonquist came in seventh at 25.45 seconds. The 100 freestyle saw
Tara Culibrk take fourth place with a time of 54.29 seconds while Croonquist was fifth at 55.53 seconds.
Moody then earned Denison's next second-place finish with a time of 2:06.83 in the 200 backstroke.
Next up was the 200 breaststroke, which saw Crane (2:28.29),
Zoe Barclay (2:29.76) and
Maria Mrosko (2:36.63) finish in order between second and fourth place.
Then in the 500 freestyle, Brown (5:03.47) finished first,
Tara Witkowski (5:07.16) was second,
Emily Harris (5:16.81) was third and
Lucy Hardart (5:23.81) was fourth.
In the final two individual events, Ferguson took first in both the 100 butterfly (57.57) and the 200 IM (2:08.39). In the 100 butterfly, she was followed by
Emma Berdelman (59.64) in second, Tehrani (59.70) in third,
Maja Palmroos (1:00.65) in fourth and
Avery Vogen (1:01.60) in fifth. Behind Ferguson in the 200 IM was Wright (2:08.89) in second, Crane (2:14.82) in third, Berdelman (2:16.04) in fourth and
Rebecca Martin (2:16.41) in fifth.
Denison closed out the action in the pool as Culibrk, Kadlecik, Palmroos and Vogen were first in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:39.22.
The competition on the diving boards began with the 3-meter dive, which saw
Kerstyn Johnson finish fifth with a score of 225.08 while Meggie Seftenberg was sixth at 224.63. Then in the 1-meter dive, Johnson (218.10) was fifth, Seftenberg (214.13) was sixth and
Anya Ferner (208.05) was seventh.
Denison will return to the pool in three weeks when they host the Denison Invitational (Dec. 1-3) at the Trumbull Aquatics Center.
