AKRON, Ohio (October 7, 2022) – Denison University women's swimming & diving opened the 2022-23 season on Friday night at the Akron Zips Classic. Denison totaled 202.5 points in the first of three sessions that will take place over the next two days at the Ocasek Natatorium. Akron, the defending Mid-American Conference champions and winners of eight of the last nine MAC titles, leads the field with 534.5 points. Bowling Green State University is second at 241 points while Youngstown State University is fourth with 113 points and Xavier University is fifth at 65.

In the 1-meter dive, freshman
Anya Ferner was Denison's top finisher with a seventh-place finish and a score of 204.95. Junior
Maggie Seftenberg (197.70) was ninth, sophomore
Kerstyn Johnson (193.20) was 10th, and freshman LuSi Minnich (166.50) was 17th.

Esme Wright kicked off the new season in the pool with a seventh-place finish and a time of 3:51.66 in 400 medley relay. Two spots behind in ninth and with a time of 3:53.60 was sophomore

Quinn Brown debuted with a time of 5:00.84 to take fourth in the 500 freestyle while junior
Tara Witkowski was eighth at 5:05.18.
Next was the 200 IM, which saw Ferguson take fifth with a time of 2:05.66 while Wright was seventh in 2:06.77.
In the final individual event of day one, the 50 free, Kadlecik led the Big Red with a tie for seventh at 23.93 seconds while Culibrk was 11th in 23.99 seconds.
Day one was capped off with a third-place finish in the 800 freestyle relay by Ferguson, Wright, Brown and Culibrk (7:34.07). In ninth was sophomore

Rebecca Martin (7:50.76).
The Akron Zips Classic will be closed out on Saturday, October 8, with two sessions beginning at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
