LANSING, Mich. – Denison women's golf carded a third-round score of 332 on Thursday evening as the Big Red are currently in 12
th place following the 54-hole cut at the 2021 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship at Forest Akers Golf Course (West Course) in Lansing, Michigan. Thanks to a top-15 showing through the first three days of competition, the Big Red will move onto the final round of action with a three-round score of 989. Denison is currently two strokes ahead of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 13
th place (991) and only four strokes behind 11
th place York College (Pa.) with 985 strokes. Carnegie Mellon University continues to sit atop the leader board with a team score of 925.
Senior
Megan Wong continues to pace the Big Red on the national stage thanks to her second-straight 80 (+8) of the tournament on Thursday evening. Matching her best score of the week from the previous day, Wong opened third-round play on the 10
th hole and displayed a consistent performance while hitting for par on seven holes and landing a birdie on the par-5 13
th hole, leading to a three-day total of 242 as she sits in a tie for 33
rd place.
Junior
Sophia Alexander tied for Denison's best score of the day when she tallied a third-round score of 80. Following a six-over-par showing on her first nine holes of the day, Alexander settled down after the turn as she carded seven pars on the front nine and turned in a 54-hole score of 246, only four strokes behind Wong, in a tie for 46
th place.
Fellow junior
Megan Munn recorded her second-best score of the tournament on Thursday as she hit for par on six of her 18 holes and added a par-5 birdie on the eighth hole to finish the day with an 85. Munn currently holds a three-round score of 257. Sophomore
Julia Shafir is currently tied with Munn with a three-day total of 257 following a third-round score of 87. Shafir hit for par on her first three holes of the day and added a birdie on the fourth hole.
DU's final score of the day came from sophomore
Laine Hursh who followed up Wednesday's 75 with a third-round score of 88. Hursh is currently tied for 68
th place with a total score of 253.
The Big Red will close out their season on Friday, May 14 when they compete in the final round of the NCAA Division III Championship at Forest Akers G.C. in Lansing, Michigan.
