INDIANAPOLIS – Following a 2021 North Coast Athletic Conference title and the program's first NCAA Tournament bid since 2006, Denison men's tennis received additional good news on Wednesday evening as junior
Tim Cianciola earned a spot in this year's NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Singles Championship hosted at the Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Cianciola will compete on May 28-30 as one of 32 singles competitors to land a spot in this year's singles tournament.
Ranked as the No. 1 singles player in the NCAA Division III Central Region, Cianciola has enjoyed a junior season to remember as he has posted an overall singles record of 9-1, all in the top flight, as well as an nine-match winning streak and a 4-0 record against NCAC East competition. He was also most recently named the NCAC Player of the Year and was a member of the NCAC Doubles Team of the Year with teammate
Jack Bulger. He also enjoyed a spot on the All-NCACÂ East team as a singles and doubles player in 2021. As a freshman in 2019, Cianciola earned first-team All-NCAC honors in both singles and doubles play and was named the NCAC Newcomer of the Year.
Throughout his three years in Granville, Cianciola has tallied an overall singles record of 39-10, including an impressive 15-2 mark in the top flight. He has also gone 44-17 in three seasons on the doubles courts, including a 7-1 record with Bulger in 2021.
Cianciola will match up with Colby sophomore Jan Wenger. In four singles matches during the spring season, Wenger has posted an overall record of 3-1 and is ranked as the sixth-best singles player in the northeast region. He finished the 2020 season ranked 18th nationally in doubles with Scott Altmeyer.
