Big Red men fall to Tartans in Top-30 showdown

GRANVILLE, Ohio -- No. 27 Denison men's tennis suffered a 6-3 loss to 15th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University on Saturday afternoon at the CMU Tennis Courts in Pittsburgh, Pa.

In doubles play, the Big Red took two out of three matches. Tim Cianciola and Jack Bulger defeated Jonathan Nottingham and Jaden D'Abreo in a tiebreak, 8-7 (7-4). CMU's Matthew Poh and Arjan Bedi took down Patrick McGuigan and Akshat Agarwal, 8-3. The Big Red duo of Andy Mackler and Vlad Rotnov responded with an 8-6 win over Raahil Doshi and Michael Fourchy.
On the singles court, Cianciola continued his strong play as he defeated Nottingham, 6-3, 6-1. The Tartans then went on a five-match winning streak starting with Brandon Aprill who picked up a 6-3, 6-0 win over Marc-Lennart Harms. Nadim Motaghedi defeated Bulger, 6-3, 6-2.
In the final three matches, D'Abreo defeated Daniel Garcia with a pair of 6-4 wins. Doshi took down Mackler, 6-4, 6-1. To close out the match, Poh defeated Milan Gonela, 7-5, 6-4. The loss drops Denison to 8-2 as the Tartans rise to 8-2.
