Men's Golf leads NCAC Championship after round one

Denison men's golf posted its second-lowest 18-hole team score in program history.

GRANVILLE, Ohio -- Denison is in first place after the first round of the 2021 North Coast Atlantic Conference Championship from Denison Golf Club. Senior Will Grady fired a four-under-par 67 to lead DU to its second-lowest 18-hole team score in program history at 279. The Big Red will take a 15-shot lead into next weekend's final round at Westbrook Country Club in Mansfield, Ohio. Wittenberg sits in second at 293 followed by Kenyon (305), DePauw (309), Ohio Wesleyan (310), Allegheny (311), Wooster (311), Wabash (312), and Hiram (350).

In his final competitive round at Denison Golf Club, Will Grady shot a career-low -4, 67 which ties the second lowest 18-hole score in Denison men's golf history. Grady's bogey-free round included four birdies on holes No. 3, 4, 6, and 10 while hitting 14 greens in regulation. Grady leads the tournament field by two strokes headed into the second.
Sam Davis and Ben Scherman both shot rounds of -1, 70. Davis carded five birdies in his round, and Scherman had three birdies and one eagle on the par-5 12th hole. Both Davis and Scherman find themselves in a tie for third place, three strokes back of the individual leader, Will Grady.
Jesse Felker and Marc Mitchell rounded out the starting five, posting rounds of 72 and 73, respectively. Felker's round included three birdies and four bogeys, while Mitchell made 14 pars in his round. Felker lands in a tie for sixth and Mitchell is in a tie for eighth place.

Men's Golf looks to continue the momentum during practice this week while preparing for the second round of the conference championship which will be held at Westbrook Country Club next Saturday, May 1.
