#27 Men’s Tennis take two from Allegheny on Senior Day

GRANVILLE, Ohio -- Denison men's tennis picked up their seventh and eighth-straight wins with a pair of 9-0 sweeps over Allegheny College on Saturday at the Denison Tennis Courts in Granville. With wins in both matches, along with Wooster defeating Kenyon on Saturday, the Big Red have clinched the NCAC East Division and have earned a spot in this year's NCAC Championship match. The date and time of that match is still to be determined.


Match 1
  • Starting out the first match strong was the duo of McGuigan and Tim Cianciola who took down Wonjoon Cho and Julien Voisey, 8-1. Purnode and partner Nadeem Jones took down Adam Shinomiya and Benny Gantrish, 8-3. Closing out doubles was the pair of Jack Bulger and Andy Mackler who handed Mackenzie Knowlton and Guillaume Loinard-Gonzalez a 8-4 loss.
  • Going into singles up 3-0, Marc-Lennart Harms defeated Shinomiya, 6-1, 6-3. Mackler took down Voisey, 6-0, 6-2. Milan Gonela picked up his first win of the day with a 6-0, 6-3 effort over Nate Chubb. 
  • Jack Bulger picked up another win for the Big Red as he defeated Knowlton in one set after Knowlton retired, 6-1. Cianciola took down Cho in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. Dennen closed out the match with 6-2, 6-0 wins over Fabrizzio Reategui. 

Match 2
  • To start off the second match in doubles, the freshman duo of Jones and Mackler defeated Reategui and Chubb, 8-1. McGuigan and Cianciola continued their chemistry with an 8-2 win over Cho and Voisey. Dennen and Akshat Agarwal closed out doubles as they took down Shinomiya and Loinard-Gonzalez, 8-4.
  • In singles action, Cianciola defeated Cho, 6-2, 6-0. Mackler blanked Voisey with a pair of 6-0 wins. Harms picked up his second win of the day with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Shinomiya. 
  • Jones continued the Big Red win streak as he defeated Loinard-Gonzalez, 6-0, 6-2. Dennen shut out Reategui with two 6-0 wins. Closing out the final match was Gonela as he posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Chubb. The two wins bring the Big Red to 8-1 overall and 5-0 in NCAC play as the Gators fell to 0-5 on the season. Seniors Jacob Dennen, Patrick McGuigan, John Purnode, and Vlad Rotnov were honored before the first match as the team celebrated Senior Day.

The Big Red will return to action on Saturday, April 24 at 1 p.m. when they travel to Pittsburgh, Pa. to take on #15 Carnegie Mellon University.
