Denison ties for first at Hoosier Invite

COLUMBUS, Indiana — Denison men's golf (908) closed the six shot gap held by Transylvania following the first two rounds to tie for first place at 908. The team champion was decided by a scorecard playoff that went in Transylvania's favor. In Sunday's final round, the Big Red posted a team total of 303. Denison defeated eight of the nine other teams at the Hoosier Heartland Invitational which included North Coast Athletic Conference rivals DePauw (922), and Wabash (949).
  • Marc Mitchell (72-75-75, +6) and Will Grady (72-75-77, +8) finished in third and fourth, respectively. Mitchell made 11 birdies and 1 eagle across three rounds, Grady was masterful around the greens, posting 78% in scrambling.
  • Ben Scherman and Jesse Felker both battled back after tough second rounds shooting +4, 76 and +3, 75 respectively. Scherman finished tied for 11th in the tournament. Griffin Hayden closed out the starting five posting a round of 81, tying for 33rd with Felker. 
  • Head coach Lauren Grogan was positive after the Big Red's strong showing. "After battling the tough conditions, we managed to close the gap between us and Transylvania, unfortunately it didn't pan out how we wanted it but we have a lot to look forward to our home tournament and the NCAC Championship."
Denison returns to action on April 17-18 when they host their home tournament at Denison Golf Club. Tee times will start at 11:30 a.m.
