#24 Women’s Tennis falls to #25 Case Western in thriller

GRANVILLE, Ohio -- No. 24 Denison women's tennis suffered a 5-4 loss on Sunday to No. 25 Case Western Reserve University in a six hour battle at the Denison Tennis Courts in Granville.

In doubles play, the Big Red jumped out to an early 2-1 lead after the 19th-ranked pair of Alex Cash and Hannah Cianciola defeated CWRU's 25th-ranked duo of Madeleine Paolucci and Savannah Bright, 8-5. Sydney Cianciola and Sarah Robertson continued the doubles streak, defeating Nicole Cardwell and Chloe Ku, 8-5. In No. 3 doubles, CWRU's Pallavi Goculdas and Nina Hoog defeated Devin Gramley and Monique Brual, 8-6.
In singles play, Denison made it a 3-1 lead after Hannah Cianciola defeated CWRU's Cardwell in three sets with two tiebreakers, 4-6, 7-6 (3-1), 7-6 (2-0). CWRU's Paolucci, ranked ninth nationally, followed with a win for the Spartans as she defeated Denison's Sydney Cianciola in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 7-5. Cash fell to Bright in two sets, 7-6 (5-3 tiebreak), 6-1, and the Spartans win streak continued as Goculdas defeated Robertson, 6-3, 7-5, giving Case Western a 4-3 advantage.
CWRU's Mira Amin defeated Gramley, 7-6 (6-4), 7-5 in No. 6 singles to secure the win for the Spartans. The loss sent Denison to 1-1 on the season as CWRU moved to 2-0.

Denison will return to action on Saturday, April 3 when they face The College of Wooster in a doubleheader starting at 10 a.m. in Granville.
