#24 Women’s Tennis opens 2021 with sweep of OWU

GRANVILLE, Ohio -- The 24th-ranked Denison women's tennis team earned their first victory of the season on Sunday with a 9-0 sweep of Ohio Wesleyan University at the Denison Tennis Courts to open the 2021 season.

The Big Red's dominance opened on the doubles court where seniors Alex Cash and Hannah Cianciola, the 19th-best doubles team in the nation, defeated OWU's Katie Lee and Ruthie Silberman, 8-4.
Denison's Sarah Robertson and Sydney Cianciola then blew by OWU's Shanzay Ali and Olivia Guenzel, 8-0. Kendall Schrader and Monique Brual continued the doubles sweep, routing the duo of Erin McPherson and Alexis Yracheta, 9-0.
On the singles court, the Big Red tallied all of their wins in straight sets, starting with Sydney Cianciola, who defeated Lee, 6-2, 6-1. Cash took down Ali, 6-1, 6-0 and Robertson picked up a pair of 6-1 wins over Silberman.
Continuing the singles win streak was Brual, who took down Guenzel, 6-0, 6-1. Devin Gramley then shut down McPherson with a pair of 6-0 wins, followed by Hannah Bradvica who defeated Alexis Yracheta by the same score.

Denison will return to action next Sunday, March 28th when they face No. 25 Case Western Reserve University at 12 p.m. in Granville.
