Box Score DELAWARE, Ohio— Chalk it up as "just one of those nights."
In what can only be described as a statistical anomaly on the hardwood, Ohio Wesleyan pulled out a 50-45 victory over the Big Red on Thursday night at Branch Rickey Arena.
With 1:08 left in the second half, Denison made it a one possession game after a steal and a layup by
Will Hunter. A miss by OWU at the other end gave the ball back to Denison with 31 seconds left with a chance to tie the game. First-year guard
Darren Rubin got an open look from the elbow but his 3-pointer was off the mark. OWU's Curtis White grabbed the rebound and was fouled. He connected on both free throws to lock up the win for the Battling Bishops.
Denison shot 25 percent from the field and were 0-for-24 from 3-point range. Ohio Wesleyan was only slightly better, shooting 33 percent from the field while going 1-for-21 from beyond the arc.
The one thing that was working for the Big Red was going inside to junior post
Freeman Brou. He tallied a game-high 25 points, going 9-for-16 from the field and was 7-of-8 from the free throw line.
Conor Fenton finished with 16 rebounds, six points and four assists in 29 minutes.
Ohio Wesleyan got 22 points from Jack Clement while Zane Ries added 12 points.
The two teams will have a rematch on Saturday, Feb. 13, in Granville at 1 p.m. The game is closed to spectators. Tune into the live video stream at
