GRANVILLE, Ohio. (November 6, 2021) – The top-ranked Denison University men's swimming & diving team fell to No. 2 Kenyon College in the two team's annual dual meet on Saturday inside the Trumbull Aquatics Center. In the end, the Lords earned a 208.5-91.5 win over the Big Red.
The meet was kicked off by the 200 medley relay in which
Chris Luus,
Noah Houskeeper,
Richie Kurlich and Trey Ike finished second with a time of 1:32.73.
In the first individual event of the meet,
Sam Myaard took second in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 9:41.43, and then Kyle Verstandig was second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:43.93.
Luus was second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 51.72 seconds, and
Elijah Venos was second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 58.26 seconds.
Kurlich won the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:50.90, the only event win of the day for the Big Red.
Next was the 50 freestyle in which Ike finished second with a time of 21.08 seconds.
On the diving boards,
Brendan Downey (248.70) and Liam Simmons (241.88) finished in third and fourth place, respectively, in the three-meter diving competition.
In the 100 freestyle, Ike (46.57 seconds) was second and Verstandig (46.71 seconds) was third; and in the 200 backstroke, Liam Picozzi (1:54.76) was third while Luus (1:55.25) was fourth.
Gavin Jones (2:09.89) finished third in the 200 breaststroke and
Christian McIntire (4:43.86) finished third in the 500 freestyle.
In the 100 butterfly, Ethan Bevill (50.22 seconds) was second while Kurlich (50.28 seconds) was third.
Simmons then took second place in the one-meter diving competition with a final score of 279.68.
In the 400 IM,
Lucas Conrads (4:10.02) was third,
Max Soja (4:12.91) was fourth and
Christian Narcelles (4:14.38) was fifth.
The dual meet was capped off by the 400 freestyle relay in which Ike, Picozzi, Kurlich and Verstandig finished second with a time of 3:04.15.
The Big Red will return to the pool on Friday, November 12, at Ohio State University before hosting the three-day Denison Invitational December 2-4.
