KALAMAZOO, Mich. (October 3, 2021) – The Denison University men's tennis team wrapped up its Fall 2021 schedule at the ITA Central Regional Championships from Friday, October 1, to Sunday, October 3.

The three-day tournament featured 64 singles draws and 32 doubles draws. The ITA Regionals serve as an opportunity for teams, individuals, and duos to compete against the best from their region and to be judged by a rater. The ITA's also boast implications on future team and individual rankings.

Competing for the Big Red was No. 2 seeded Tim Cianciola, Marc-Lennart Harms and Andy Mackler in singles while in doubles, Cianciola and Mackler teamed up as the No. 5 seeded doubles pairing in the tournament.

Cianciola and Mackler won both of their doubles matches on Friday to advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday, where they won 8-4 before falling by a close score of 8-6 against the No. 1 overall seed in the semifinals.

In singles, Cianciola won both of his matches on Friday by scores of 6-0, 6-0 to advance to the round of 16. Also in singles, Harms won his first match 6-0, 6-1 before falling in the round of 32 against the No. 1 overall seed, and Mackler won his first match 6-0, 6-0 before coming up short in three sets in round two.

On Saturday, Cianciola won by scores of 6-1, 6-2 and 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 to advance to the semifinals on Sunday against the player that knocked out Mackler. Unfortunately, Cianciola came up short against Ansh Shah by a score of 6-0, 6-2.

Head Coach David Schilling said, "All in all, it was a pretty good week. It was good to have a doubles team make the semifinals, and I think that Tim [Cianciola] proved that he is one of the best players in the central region. He had been out awhile, so to get him nine matches in three days is great. Congrats to Ansh Shah, who is a great player in his own right."
