Box Score GRANVILLE, Ohio-- No. 7 Denison tied the NCAA all-division record for fastest goal to start a game and it was all downhill from there as the Big Red cruised to a 20-3 win over DePauw on Saturday at Piper Stadium.
Denison's Hunter Golian opened the game with a clean win off the faceoff and seconds later his shot found the back of the net to put DU on top 1-0 with 14:57 to play in the first. The goal tied the NCAA record shared by Jay Colletti of Salem State and Jordan Hall of Delaware.
Thirty-four seconds later, Denison took a 2-0 lead on Brant Pittman's goal from Camden Bowdy. The Big Red ended the first quarter with a 7-0 lead thanks to goals by Peter Pittroff, Chris Broderick, Will Kenney, Ethan Tyack, and Sam Dyson.
In the second quarter, Denison outscored the Tigers 5-0 behind two more goals from Kenny and one apiece from Richie Bartozzi, Bowdy, and Wills Hutras.
DePauw got on the board in the third quarter, matching Denison with three goals but in the fourth, the Big Red put five more on the scoreboard to close out the 20-3 win.
Kenney led all scorers with three goals on three shots. First-year Charlie Walsh had two goals and one assist while 17 different players scored at least one goal for the home team.
Golian was 10-for-10 on faceoffs and led the way with six ground balls. Dyson had three caused turnovers in addition to his first-quarter goal. Nico Feldman and Steven Villacorta followed with four ground balls for Denison.
Four goalies saw time for Denison as Reeves McKenney got the start and earned the win posting three saves in 25 minutes of action. TJ Spahn logged 20 minutes and made one save while Stephen Paras (11 minutes, 2 saves) and Archer Darrach (4 minutes, 2 saves) closed out the game.
Denison returns to action next Friday (March 13) when they square off against Dickinson at 6:15 from Mustang Stadium on the campus of Stevenson University in Owings Mills, Maryland.
