Box Score MOUNT BERRY, Ga.-- Denison's record-setting 2019 season came to an end at the hands of the Adrian Bulldogs in the NCAA Regional. On Friday, the Big Red exacted some revenge for that loss with a 9-2 victory over Adrian at the Berry Invitational.
Denison turned to junior pitcher Taylor Perrett who scattered six hits and one earned run over five innings. Perrett struck out six and got out of a jam in the fifth by striking out B. Wood to end the inning. In the top of the sixth, the Big Red offense went to work, breaking the 2-2 tie with five runs on five hits.
Ty Robinson started things off with a double that moved Brian McAuliffe to third. The Bulldogs intentionally walked Will Krushena, setting the table for a two-run single by first-year Danny Alvarez. Brad Baldinger followed with an RBI double to left-center and Vince Walker tagged on an RBI single to the same gap in left-center, scoring Baldinger.
After a stolen base by Walker, Anthony Ruggieri reached on an infield single and Walker came around to score on an error by the first baseman, capping off the five-run sixth for Denison.
In the eight, Denison tacked on two more on RBI's by Baldinger and Walker.
Max Lahn, Krushena and Walker all had two hits for the Big Red. Walker, Baldinger, and Alvarez each knocked in two runs apiece. Krushena reached safely in four of his five plate appearances. Adrian was held to seven hits while Denison pitchers combined for 12 strikeouts.
After Perrett exited to start the sixth, Charlie Fleming pitched three scoreless innings of relief. He allowed one hit and two walks while fanning five. Caleb Struewing worked a scoreless ninth to finish off the victory.
Denison (2-2) returns to action on Saturday when they face the host, Berry College, at 4 p.m. The weekend trip to the Peach State ends on Sunday when Denison takes on Wisconsin-Oshkosh at noon.
