Red-hot bats lead Big Red past Muskies

NEW CONCORD, Ohio –Will Krushena, Brian McAuliffe, and Ty Robinson combined for 11 RBIs as Denison baseball cruised past Muskingum on Wednesday evening by a final score of 16-1 at Mose Morehead Field in New Concord, Ohio.

Finishing the game with 16 hits, including six extra-base hits, the Big Red tallied runs in seven of the nine innings on Wednesday, led by a 2-for-4 performance from McAuliffe. After opening the game with a sacrifice fly to center and scoring Vince Walker, the senior continued his stellar performance in the third when he drove home Krushena with an RBI double.

In the top of the sixth, McAuliffe increased his RBI total to five with a three-run home run to right field as the Big Red built their lead to 10-0.

Krushena finished the game with a 4-for-4 effort while adding three RBIs and three runs scored. The senior recorded a pair of RBI singles on the day, beginning with a run-scoring single in the fourth to drive home Robinson. In the top of the seventh, Krushena singled to center field once again, this time scoring Walker and Sam Correa.

The Big Red ended the day with five doubles, including RBI doubles from McAuliffe, Robinson, Cam Farren, and Gavin Thompson. Thompson, a freshman from New Concord, is the son of Muskingum's head coach Gregg Thompson.

On the hill, sophomore Will McManaman earned his first win of the season after keeping the Muskies scoreless on three hits through five innings. Henry Haack and Andrew Brown each worked two innings of relief as Denison posted their highest run total since May 1, 2019, in an 18-8 win at Oberlin. The Big Red moves to 4-4 on the season while Muskingum drops to 5-5.

Krushena, McAuliffe, Farren, and Brad Baldinger all recorded multi-hit efforts in the win while five different players scored two or more runs. Krushena and Walker led the game with three runs each. Farren finished the day 3-for-6 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Denison will return to the diamond this Saturday, March 14 when they travel to Port Charlotte, Fla. to begin their 2020 spring break trip. The Big Red opens with Baldwin Wallace on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
