Denison falls to Otterbein in 2020 home opener

GRANVILLE, Ohio—No. 19 Denison suffered a 12-6 loss to Otterbein on Tuesday afternoon at Big Red Field. The Big Red jumped out to a 5-2 lead through three innings but a four-run fifth put the Cardinals on top, 7-5.  They put the game away with four runs in the eighth and one in the ninth to set the final.

Luke Barber was 4-for-6 to lead the Cardinals offense. Brayden Carter drove in three runs and was 2-for-3 with two walks.

The Big Red got home runs from Brian McAuliffe and Ty Robinson.  McAuliffe was 2-for-5 with two RBI and one run scored.  Danny Alvarez also was 2-for-5 with a run scored.

First-year Charlie Fleming took the loss, going 4.2 innings. He allowed four earned runs on seven hits while striking out five.  Cody Coletz picked up the win in relief of starter Conor Crotty.  Goletz pitched three scoreless innings of relief. Travis Burson earned a three-inning save, striking out six while scattering two hits.
