Second Half outburst sends #22 Denison past #24 Geneseo

GENESEO, N.Y.--  No. 22 Denison outscored No. 24 SUNY Geneseo 13-4 in the second half to defeat the Knights, 17-10 in Saturday's season-opener from College Stadium. 

The Big Red found themselves trailing 7-5 with 24 minutes remaining but a goal by Casey McTague with 23:34 left sparked a 6-0 Denison run over the next eight minutes.  Three goals by McTague, and one apiece from Allaire Kotz, Kiely Noonan and Liza Farnham gave DU an 11-7 lead with 15 minutes to play.

The Knights scored three of the next four goals in a three-minute span to get to within two at 12-10.  With 11:38 on the clock, Graham McIntosh scored on an assist from Kotz. That goal sparked a 5-0 run for Denison to close out the game.

Farnham led the way with five goals on eight shots.  McTague scored four goals and had one assist while leading all players with five ground balls. 

Noonan scored two goals, three assists, three draw controls, and two ground balls.  Molly Fischer added two goals and one assist in addition to four ground balls.

Maeve Caldwell finished with 15 saves on 25 shots faced in 60 minutes of action.  SUNY Geneseo's Margaret Rosaschi posted 13 saves.

Denison held a narrow 34-33 advantage in shots.  Both teams struggled on free-position attempts, going a combined 3-for-15. 

The Big Red returns to action tomorrow (Feb. 23) when they travel to No. 21 Brockport for a 2 p.m. opening draw.
