PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. — No. 11 Denison women's lacrosse broke things open in the second half, pulling away for a decisive 18–7 win over Smith on Tuesday evening to improve to 6–1 on the season.
The Big Red overcame an early 2–0 deficit and closed the opening quarter on a 4–1 run, highlighted by goals from Grayson O'Marra, Finlay Harmon, Madison Goldstein, and Addie Clift, to take a 4–3 lead after one. From there, Denison took control of the game, holding Smith scoreless in the second quarter while adding three goals of its own to build a 7–3 halftime advantage.
Denison continued to dictate play in the third, outscoring Smith 5–3 behind a balanced offensive attack. Mary Martinson and MK Barnhart each found the back of the net during a key stretch, while Sophie Davenport and Maddie Chase added late goals to extend the lead to 12–6 heading into the final quarter.
The Big Red put the game out of reach in the fourth, erupting for six goals while limiting Smith to just one. O'Marra completed her hat trick early in the quarter, while Harmon, Martinson, and Chase added to their multi-goal performances. Chase scored twice in the final period, and Sydney Lavin capped the scoring as Denison closed the game on a commanding run.
Offensively, Denison showcased its depth with nine different goal scorers and three players, Chase, Martinson, and O'Marra, recording hat tricks. Barnhart, Goldstein, and Harmon each added two goals, with Harmon also contributing multiple assists in a well-rounded effort.
Denison held a decisive advantage in nearly every statistical category, outshooting Smith 34–18 and placing 26 shots on goal compared to Smith's 13. The Big Red also controlled possession with a 14–8 edge in draw controls and held a slight advantage in ground balls (17–15). Defensively, Denison forced 11 turnovers and successfully cleared 12 of 14 attempts.
