Women's Swimming and Diving

#1 Denison women roll over YSU and OWU in Senior Meet

GRANVILLE, Ohio--  Fourteen seniors were honored for their contributions to the Denison women's swimming & diving program prior to Saturday's meet against Division I Youngstown State and Ohio Wesleyan.  The top-ranked Big Red defeated Ohio Wesleyan 233-63 and knocked off YSU, 196-99.

Denison posted 10 victories in the swimming events and swept both diving events.  Senior Naomi Clayton finished first on the 1-meter board with a six-dive score of 263.10.  Mattie Stauss placed fourth at 219.45 while Taylor Trapp (206.35), and Ally Peterson (198.10) followed. Peterson returned to win the 3-meter board with a six-dive score of 243.05.

Senior wins came from Natalie Zaravella in the 100 fly (59.00), KT Kustritz in the 25 free (11.13), and Angela Le in the 100 IM (1:00.41).  Kustritz and Kate Mesaros finished 2-3, respectively in the 50 fly and Caroline Colville logged a runner-up finish to Zaravella in the 100 fly (59.25).

First-year Tara Culibrk recorded wins in the 100 free (52.71) and the 50 free (24.32).  Logan Wickman won the 300 freestyle with a time of 3:04.92 and took second in the 100 free with a time of 54.10.

Sophomore Grace Kacmarek picked up a pair of victories in the 500 free (5:16.10) and the 100 backstroke in 1:01.30.  Senior Hannah Rusinko opened the meet by singing the Star-Spangled Banner and followed that with a second-place finish in the 500 free in 5:18.92.

Second-place showings were recorded by Bridget Horton (28.62) in the 50 backstroke and Olivia Lantry (31.71) in the 50 breast.  In addition to Zaravella's win in the 100 butterfly, she also finished second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:09.00.

The 200 medley relay team of Kustritz, Mesaros, Zoe Whelan, and Michaela Morrison opened the meet with a victory and a time of 1:48.32.  Kustritz, Morrison, Le, and Gabriella Nutter closed the meet with a win in the 200 free relay in 1:39.55.

The Big Red's next competition will be the 2020 North Coast Athletic Conference Championship which will take place on Feb. 12-15 at the Trumbull Aquatics Center.  Denison's senior class consists of Kaila Byerly, Naomi Clayton, Caroline Colville, Haley Gullquist, Erica Hsu, Casey Kirby, KT Kustritz, Angela Le, Kate Mesaros, Michaela Morrison, Gabriella Nutter, Hannah Rusinko, Zoe Whelan, and Natalie Zaravella.
