PITTSBURGH-- Top-ranked Denison picked up a pair of victories over nationally-ranked opponents on Saturday. The Denison women recorded 10 event wins and two pool records in victories over No. 12 Carnegie Mellon (172.5-127.5) and No. 21 Calvin (235-65).
Senior Naomi Clayton qualified for the NCAA Division III Diving Regional by winning the 1-meter dive with a six-dive score of 280.40. This will be Clayton's third-straight NCAA Diving Regional appearance.
Denison swept both relays, setting new pool records in the process. The meet was kicked off by a victory in the 200 medley relay as Angela Le, KT Kustritz, Maddie Hopkins, and Gabriella Nutter touched in 1:45.93.
The same foursome returned with a victory and pool record in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:36.77.
In the 200 fly, Zoe Whelan and Natalie Zaravella went 1-2, respectively. Whelan finished at 2:07.51 while Zaravella followed in 2:08.52. Gabriella Nutter posted victories in the 50 free (24.37) and the 100 free (53.26). Hopkins tied for second in the 50 free in 24.67 and Tara Culibrk was third in the 100 free in 53.74.
Culibrk was also a winner in the 200 free, finishing in 1:54.73 and Caroline Colville placed first in the 500 free with a time of 5:15.02.
In addition to Clayton's win on the 1-meter board, Ally Peterson placed third with a six-dive score of 249.55 and Mattie Stauss took sixth with 230.25. On the 3-meter board, Peterson led the way with a second-place finish and a score of 252.85. Stauss finished fourth (246.85) followed by Clayton in fifth (245.50).
As she has done so many times in her storied career, Kustritz swept the 100 and 200 breaststroke events, logging winning times of 1:05.60 and 2:26.17, respectively. Kate Mesaros posted a close second-place finish in the 100 breast in 1:05.76.
In the 100 fly, Hopkins (58.57) and Whelan (58.58) finished 2-3 while Erica Hsu (2:12.70) and Zaravella (2:12.80) touched fourth and fifth, respectively in the 200 IM.
In the 200 backstroke, Bridget Horton led DU with a third-place showing in 2:09.94 while Le placed second in the 100 back with a time of 58.07.
Results were rounded out by a second-place performance in the 1000 free by Colville in 10:41.51.
Denison returns to the Trumbull Aquatics Center on Friday, January 24 for a 5 p.m. meet against the University of Indianapolis.
