Box Score GREENCASTLE, Ind.-- A red-hot start was enough to carry DePauw to an 89-79 victory over Denison. The Tigers connected on eight 3-pointers in the first half and went on to go 13-of-24 for the game.
DePauw led 12-7 early in the first half but a 14-3 run by the Tigers gave the home team a 16 point lead with just over eight minutes to play in the opening period.
In the second half, the Big Red started chipping away at the DePauw lead by going into the paint, specifically to sophomore Freeman Brou. After scoring four points in the first half, Freeman Brou scored six points in the first six minutes of the second half.
With 12:25 remaining, Fred Brou found John Faller down low for a layup, cutting the Tiger lead to just five. The two teams traded 3-pointers on their next two possessions but DePauw's Elijah Hales drilled a triple to give his squad some breathing room at 64-56.
The Hales 3-pointer sparked a 7-0 run for DePauw but Denison made one last push. Consecutive treys by Jack Coulter and Kevin Cheng trimmed the DePauw lead back to five but once again, the 3-pointer bailed the Tigers out when Nick Felke knocked down his third of the game to put his squad back on top by eight.
Over the final six minutes, DePauw outscored Denison 12-6 to lock up the victory.
Freeman Brou scored a career-high 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting. He also led the way with six rebounds in 25 minutes. Conor Fenton finished with 13 points and five rebounds while Coulter added 12 points.
Felke scored 25 points to lead DePauw. Aaron Shank followed with 16 points while Hales chipped in 12 points while going 4-of-5 from beyond the arc.
DePauw shot 58 percent for the game and was 13-of-24 long-range. The Tigers also converted 18-of-23 at the charity stripe while the Big Red attempted just two free throws on the night.
Denison will host Allegheny on Saturday (Jan. 18) at 3 p.m.
