Box Score GRANVILLE, Ohio-- A pair of first half goals by Ariel Lovey and Kailey Knopf was enough to propel Denison past Adrian in women's soccer action from Barclay-Thomsen Field on Sunday.
The Big Red picked up victory No. 1 in the 2019 season thanks to a stellar first half of play that saw them control possession and outshoot the Bulldogs 14-5.
The first goal of the match came in the seventh minute of play when Leland Keller played a ball through the midfield to Claire Kolff who centered a pass to Lovey for her first goal of the season.
The second tally came in the 32nd minute when Dulcie Heyes sent a crossing pass to Knopf who converted the scoring opportunity.
In the second half, Adrian did win the shot battle, 8-3 but Denison keeper Patil Tcholakian was on her game, recording four saves in the second half.
Overall, Denison outshot Adrian 17-13. Kelly O'Neill and Lovel paced DU with three shots apiece. Keller, Brianna Lisbon, and Emma Phinney followed with two shots each.
Denison returns to the pitch on Wednesday (Sept. 11) when they host Ohio Northern at 7 p.m. from Barclay-Thomsen Field.
