Denison shuts down Wabash to end regular season

Box Score

GRANVILLE, Ohio - The nationally-ranked Denison baseball team closed out the regular season with a 6-0 shutout of Wabash College on Sunday afternoon in Granville. Sunday's victory was a continuation from Saturday's doubleheader with the Little Giants that was suspended in the second inning of game two due to rain. The win also split the weekend series after Wabash took the first game on Saturday, 7-1.

Holding Wabash scoreless on six hits for the game, the Big Red were led by the pitching performances from Taylor Perrett and John Troll. Perrett started the game for DU on Saturday and recorded four consecutive outs before the game was suspended. Perrett continued his dominance on Sunday when he allowed three hits with four strikeouts while keeping the Little Giants scoreless through five combined innings of work. With the win, Perrett improved to 4-1 on the season.

Perrett also received some help from the Big Red bats in the second when Cam Farren and Nick Pettigrew each tallied a pair of RBIs to give Denison a 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, Farren added his second RBI of the game when he drove home Brian McAuliffe from third with a single through the right side.

Leading 4-0 entering the sixth, Troll relieved Perrett and picked up where he left off. Logging four innings of relief work for DU, the senior scattered three hits for zero runs and posted four strikeouts as he collected his first save of the season. The win moved Denison to 34-6 on the season and 14-4 in conference play. The loss dropped Wabash to 21-17 and 9-8 in the NCAC.

The Big Red offense was led by Baldinger's 3-for-3 performance while adding a run. Will Krushena went 2-for-4 with a run scored and Farren tallied two RBIs and a run.

Wabash's Tyler Dearing was tagged with the loss as he moved to 2-2 on the season. Jackson Blevins and Austin Simmers each finished with two hits for the Little Giants.

Finishing the regular season with the most wins in program history, Denison will continue their season this Thursday through Saturday, May 9-11 when they travel to Chillicothe, Ohio for the 2019 North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament. Competing teams and matchups will be released upon the completion of the regular season for all schools in the conference.
