Denison to host Oberlin in NCAC Tourney Semifinal

GRANVILLE, Ohio--  Denison is the No. 1 seed in this week's North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament.  The Big Red will host fourth-seeded Oberlin on Thursday (May 2) at 5 p.m. at Piper Stadium. The start time was pushed up due to potential thunderstorms in the forecast. Denison enters the postseason with a record of 13-4 after posting an 8-0 record in conference play.  Oberlin went 6-8 in the regular season with a 5-3 mark in NCAC play.

Denison is seeking its sixth-straight NCAC Tournament championship and the program's 14th, overall which is a conference record.

The Big Red is led by senior All-American defender Jane Goodspeed who recently became the program's all-time leader in draw controls and caused turnovers. She is also approaching the program's record for ground balls.  Goodspeed ranks eighth in Division III in draw controls per game (8.6).  In Denison's 17-8 win over Oberlin on April 3, Goodspeed totaled eight ground balls, nine draw controls, and a school-record seven caused turnovers.

Denison boasts the nation's 16th ranked scoring attack at 16.9 goals per game.  Kiely Noonan leads the attackers with 44 goals and 21 assists.  First-year midfielder Casey McTague has scored 40 goals while sophomore Liza Farnham checks in with 34 goals.  The Big Red boasts a balanced offensive attack with seven players with 20 goals or more.

Oberlin's Tess Siciliano leads the Yeowomen offense with 39 goals.  Hayley Drapkin leads the team in points with 21 goals and 30 assists.  Emily Berner, who was a first-team All-NCAC selection in 2018, is averaging 2.8 caused turnovers per game.

Tickets will be $7 for adults and $3 for children, 18 and under.  Students with a valid ID from an NCAC institution will be admitted free of charge.

The winner of the Denison-Oberlin semifinal will advance to Sunday's NCAC Tournament Championship where they will face the winner of the Kenyon-Wooster semifinal.
