GRANVILLE, Ohio-- The 26th ranked Denison men's tennis team posted a 7-2 win over Oberlin College on Saturday afternoon at the Denison Tennis Courts.
Denison rolled through doubles play after Tim Cianciola and Mitchell Thai took down Camron Cohen and Stephen Gruppuso, 8-3. Kevin Brown and Blake Burstein downed Elliott Nuss and James Dill, 8-4 while Brian Weisberg and Vlad Rotnov defeated Matthew Gittings and Zachary Vaugh, 8-2. With the win, Denison's No. 1 doubles team of Cianciola and Thai improve to 15-6 overall and 7-1 in dual matches out of the first flight.
At No. 1 singles, Rotnov used a third set super tiebreaker to defeat Gruppuso, 6-2, 1-6, 15-13. At No. 2, Ciancola took care of Vaughn, 6-0, 6-4. At No. 4, Brown defeated Nuss, 6-1, 6-3 and Thai dispatched Cohen, 6-2, 6-2 at third singles to round out the winners for DU.
Denison improves to 7-5 while Oberlin drops to 5-9. The Big Red returns to NCAC West Divisional play on Wednesday (April 10) when they travel to Wittenberg for a 4:30 p.m. match.
