Women's tennis advances to NCAC semifinals

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.--  Denison women's tennis advanced to the semifinals of the 2019 North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament after a 5-0 victory over Ohio Wesleyan in the quarterfinal round.

Played at the Barbara S. Wynne Tennis Center at North Central High School, the second-seeded Big Red took a 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles action.  The nation's 25th ranked doubles team of Lauren Hawley and Emma Alsup defeated Lauren Corcoran and Sydney Simmons, 8-4 to improve to 19-7 on the season.  Alex Cash and Hannah Cianciola picked up an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles while Megan Hickey and Ashley Hammons posted an 8-0 win at third doubles.

DU needed only two singles points to clinch the match and those came at No. 3 and No. 6 where Cianciola and Madeline Hart posted 6-0, 6-0 victories to push their squad into the semifinals of the conference championship.

Denison will face DePauw on Saturday (April 27) at 9 a.m. in a clash of two nationally ranked teams.  The Big Red checks into the match ranked No. 26 in the most recent ITA Division III rankings and DePauw is No. 35.
