Big Red tops John Carroll, 10-1

GRANVILLE, Ohio—Max Lahn went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and Kenny Lippman pitched five shutout innings of two-hit baseball to lead Denison to a 10-1 win over John Carroll University.

Leading 1-0 in the third, Lahn drove a double to the wall in right center, scoring Will Krushena.  Brian McAuliffe followed with a single to right, scoring Lahn to put the Big Red on top, 3-0.

In the fourth, Ty Robinson's RBI single to center scored Anthony Ruggieri with the game's fourth run.

Lippman was in total control, cruising through five innings, scattering two hits and two walks while striking out three.  Danny Brackman took over in the sixth and the Blue Streaks scored their lone run of the game on an infield single by Dominic Mittiga.

Denison led 4-1 entering the home half of the sixth and that's when Denison blew the game wide-open with a four-run, two-out rally.  Grady Paine started things off with a single to left that scored Vince Walker.  Robinson blasted a triple to the gap in left-center, scoring Paine and Krushena slapped a single to right-center, plating Robinson.  Lahn's red-hot afternoon continued with an RBI single to left, scoring Krushena with DU's fourth run of the inning.

The scoring was rounded out in the seventh on a Ruggieri two-run double that scored Nick Pettigrew and Brad Baldinger.

Denison pounded out 15 hits, led by Lahn's 4-for-4 afternoon, raising his batting average to an even .500 (29-for-58). Robinson was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and one run scored.  McAuliffe and Ruggieri were 2-for-4.  Lippman improved to 2-1 with the win. Brackman and Jack Arnstein worked the final four innings for the Big Red.  John Carroll starter Nathaniel Wenson took the loss and dropped to 2-1 on the season.

With the win, Denison improves to 14-2 while John Carroll drops to 13-5.  The Big Red is back in action on Thursday (March 28) when they host Ohio Northern at 5 p.m.
