No. 13 Denison topples Rhodes, 16-10

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-- Jake Waxter and Brooks Davy tallied four goals apiece and Reeves McKenney had 10 saves to lead No. 13 Denison to a 16-10 victory over Rhodes College at St. Anne's Belfield in Charlottesville, Va.

The Lynx took a 3-2 lead early in the first quarter but Denison responded by scoring seven of the next eight goals to go on top 9-4 with 13 minutes left in the second period.  A pair of goals from Waxter with less than two minutes before halftime sent DU into the intermission with an 11-7 advantage.

Denison controlled the third quarter, outscoring Rhodes 3-1 behind goals from Davy, Devin Irvin and a man-up goal from Doug GodineOwen Armstrong added a goal with 9:18 left in the fourth off a pass from Peter Pittroff and Spencer Butler closed out the scoring with 5:25 on the clock off a pass from Camden Bowdy.

Davy finished with four goals and two assists on 14 shots.  Waxter scored four goals on eight shots while adding two ground balls.  Pittroff had three assists and Butler tallied a hat-trick on five shots.

Chris Broderick and Henry DeCamp gathered seven ground balls apiece and Patrick Lunt added five ground balls.  The Big Red held a 43-21 advantage in ground balls and were 19-of-21 when clearing the ball.  DU also held a 45-35 advantage in shots and DeCamp was a difference maker at the faceoff dot, winning 21-of-30.  DeCamp is 42-of-60 when facing off over his last two contests.

Rhodes (8-2) was led by Tyler Milwit's four goals.  Addison Mueller scored three goals and had one assist and Cameron Link posted 11 saves for the Lynx.

Denison was 2-for-3 in man-up situations while Rhodes was 2-for-5.  The Big Red's next game will be on Saturday (March 30) in Granville, Ohio when DU hosts Albion College at 1 p.m.
