Box Score ENGLEWOOD, Fla. - Denison women's lacrosse connected on a pair of goals in the final five minutes of action to defeat the Knights of SUNY Geneseo 13-11 on Wednesday afternoon for their second game of the spring trip in Englewood, Fla.
Winning 17 of the game's 25 draw controls and converting on all 12 clears in the second half, the Big Red recovered from an early 5-2 deficit with six-straight goals over eight minutes of action in the first half. Sophomore Liza Farnham and freshman Casey McTague combined for five of Denison's six tallies as the Big Red took an 8-5 advantage with 2:15 remaining in the first half.
The Knights scored two additional goals before the half, including a free position goal from Laura Skrzypczyk as time expired to cut their deficit to one, 8-7, at the break.
In the second half, the Big Red wasted no time in building their lead when sophomore Lindsey Karsh accepted a pass from Hope Adams and cashed in at the cage 25 seconds into the half. Less than three minutes later, Karsh assisted Kiely Noonan on her first goal of the game as Denison increased their lead to 10-7.
Carrying an 11-8 lead with 19:17 remaining in the game, Geneseo closed in on the Big Red with three straight goals, including a free position goal from Lindsey Hernady at the 4:59 mark to tie the game at 11-11.
Following a draw control from Maddy Heher on the next possession, Denison answered in less than 30 seconds when Adams connected on an unassisted goal to retake the lead for DU. Twenty seconds later, Heher took her turn at the cage for her second goal of the game as the Big Red held on for a 13-11 victory to improve to 3-3 on the season.
McTague and Farnham led Denison with three goals each on nine combined shots. Adams and Heher added two goals each, while Adams also led the game with three assists. Geneseo's Hernady, Skrzypczyk, and Hannah Marafioti each tallied two goals for the Knights.
In goal, Denison's Hannah Magarian recorded her third win of the season with 12 saves in 60 minutes of action. Tess McFadden and Margaret Rosaschi posted four saves each for the Knights.
The Big Red will return to Englewood on Friday, March 22 when they round out their spring break with a 1 p.m. matchup against No. 23 Rowan.
